New Technology in PE:
Google Classroom will be used for three assignments per quarter for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. The purpose for this is to enrich the understanding of concepts developed in PE such as heart rate during exercise, fitness concepts and components, nutrition, etc. Your student will also do a self evaluation of their participation on Google Classroom.
Through Mt. Shasta Education Foundation we have purchased 5 iPads and 36 Polar Heart Rate monitors that we will be using this year to enrich your students understanding of their bodies. We will focus on their individual heart rates with response to different exercises. Also, the iPads will provide video analysis of their biomechanics (body movements) during different skills and tasks. The iPads have so many quick easy applications to enhance student learning in PE such as multi stop watches, diagram drawing, QR code readers.

Things to know |
Participation- Student grades are based primarily on their positive ability to participate and cooperate with others. If your child is injured please write me a parent note. A parent note excuses a child for up to 3 consecutive days. A doctor’s note is appreciated after 3 consecutive days. Along with the Sisson Dress code we have special considerations for PE. Please make sure your student leaves the house with proper foot wear. This means their shoes should have closed toes and heels. The shoes should also provide arch support and stay on while kicking, running, and jumping. If you need help getting a pair of shoes for your student please let me know and I can help. Pants should stay up and allow you to bend, run and jump. Shirts should cover you and allow you to move freely. *I have extra clothes and will call home to help your student come to school dressed for PE. Discipline If a student has a minor issue and needs refocusing, I send them to the office for a “fix-it-ticket” where they answer a few questions and reflect on their choices, creating an action plan for the future. If the behavior continues I will call home and discuss possible solutions with the parent. I am a firm believer in disciplining the behavior while supporting the child. Walk-A-thon
The Walk-A-Thon is a great way to fund equipment for PE, provide cardiovascular exercise, and service learning for the students. The equipment we use is expensive and hard to replace on the small budget that the District Office provides. This year we are hoping to raise money for new equipment and special activities. Last year we raised about $800 dollars and purchased new volleyballs, omnikins, a class set of disc golf discs, gator balls, pennies, badminton shuttlecocks, pickleballs. This year we are in need of new volleyball nets, a parachute, stilts, soccer balls, size 4 rugby balls, and new badminton rackets. I would also like to invest in some odyssey curriculum |
